June 30, 2010 is a momentous day for folks who like to play online. As we speak, the 2010 Social Media Day is taking place around the world and social media nerds like yours truly are invited to participate in local Social Media Day events aimed at celebrating all that’s great about social media and to meet like-minded people. It should come as no surprise that the day-long celebration is spearheaded by Mashable, the online source for every darned thing you can imagine related to social media. According to the official Social Media Day website, 600+ meet-ups worldwide have been organized with more than 10,000 people set to attend. Wow.
Of course, participants are encouraged to get social with their involvement in the day. You can tweet about Social Media Day and any activities you plan to participate in using the #smday hashtag, and spread the love over to Facebook if you feel so inclined.
While I know the SMDay event at Science Club in DC has a waiting list, there are still plenty of ways for you to participate. Here is a quick rundown courtesy of Mashable:
